With the Detroit Lions in a strong position for a playoff bid, Aidan Hutchinson’s absence has revealed a gap in their defensive line.

Although the team has shown resilience, the need for a reliable edge rusher remains crucial, especially for a serious Super Bowl pursuit.

Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report recommends the Lions consider Saints defensive end Chase Young, a former No. 2 overall pick and Defensive Rookie of the Year, as a prime trade target. Knox believes, “The Lions are a logical landing spot for any available edge-rushers,” and Young’s recent performances make him an attractive option.

This season, Young has been productive with two sacks and 14 pressures in seven games. While trading him wouldn’t immediately benefit the Saints financially due to his one-year, $13 million contract, it could offer Detroit valuable draft picks, which works in their favor.

Flexible Contract, Immediate Impact

Young’s contract makes him especially appealing to the Lions. Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder points out that Young’s one-year deal would allow Detroit to acquire him without a long-term financial burden. This setup would give the Lions an instant boost to their pass rush without a multi-year commitment, leaving room for future roster adjustments.

For the Lions, bringing in Young could elevate their defense. With Hutchinson’s status uncertain, Young could provide the pressure needed off the edge, making Detroit’s defense more competitive, especially against top offenses in the playoffs.

A Move That Signals Detroit is All-In

Head coach Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes have emphasized building a winning culture, and adding Chase Young could signal Detroit’s commitment to contending this year. Such a move would also energize fans and the locker room, showing the front office’s dedication to making this season a success.

As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes are on Detroit’s front office to see if they’ll make a bold move for Young, a decision that could be crucial in their quest for NFC dominance and a Super Bowl shot.
