Jared Goff has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October, recognizing his impressive performance that has helped the Detroit Lions achieve a 6-1 record this season. This accolade follows his leadership in the Lions’ three victories during the month, contributing to a current five-game winning streak. Goff’s achievement marks him as the second Lions player to win a monthly award this season, following teammate Aidan Hutchinson’s recognition in September.
In his recent four-game stretch, including a Monday Night Football win against the Seahawks, Goff has completed 70 of 83 pass attempts, resulting in an outstanding completion rate of 84.3%. He has thrown for 972 yards, recording 10 touchdowns without any interceptions. Notably, he also caught a touchdown pass during the Seahawks game, showcasing his versatility.
Goff’s recognition as Offensive Player of the Month places him among elite company in Lions history. He becomes just the third player in franchise history to earn this award, joining Hall of Famers Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders, who have each received the honor multiple times.
The quarterback, who recently signed a four-year, $212 million contract extension, is currently playing some of the best football of his career. Under his guidance, the Lions’ offense leads the league in scoring, averaging 33.4 points per game, and is efficient, scoring touchdowns on 35% of their drives.
Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson praised Goff’s intelligent play, emphasizing his ability to manage the game effectively and connect with various playmakers. He highlighted that Goff’s success stems from limiting turnovers and executing the game plan, leading to a series of high-scoring performances that reflect the expectations set for the season.
