Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff offered his perspective on what makes Detroit is offense a powerful force in the NFL this season in an enlightening interview with Bill Belichick on the Let us Go! podcast. Goff attributed the Lions’ high-scoring performance in large part to their attacking consistency.”We have the same offensive line, added (Kevin) Zeitler from the Ravens, and really the same skill players, and it just keeps adding and accumulating,” Goff stated, as cited by 97.1 The Ticket, after Ben Johnson returned for the third season. “Those guys run excellent routes, they protect me, and I deliver it precisely and on time. However, those figures are cool for the most part. I am just trying to play disciplined football, which I believe I have done, and I am trying to keep doing that.
The defensive guru Belichick even went so far as to say that the Lions’ offense was “impossible to stop.” Goff graciously dismissed the compliment, stating, “Bill was being nice,” but he acknowledged that Belichick’s remarks had some merit. Goff admitted, “With the number of weapons we have, it is difficult.”
Choose Your Poison
Goff clarified why defenses are finding it difficult to stop Detroit is powerful offense, as the Lions lead the NFL with an astounding 33.4 points per game. “In certain situations, defenses will have to pick their poison on the person they wish to stop, leaving someone else vulnerable,” Goff stated. And with the abundance of guys we have available to throw it to, we have known that to be the case for the whole season. The offensive depth of the Lions has changed the course of games. Every member of the team, from linemen to skill players, helps create a smooth offense that leaves defenders reeling. Goff is putting on one of his most effective outings to date thanks to the protection his O-line offers and the abilities of the backs and receivers.
Jared Goff on Sticking to the Plan
Jared Goff will need to continue working hard and exercising discipline in order to maintain this high level of performance. Goff remarked, “You just keep working and trying to maintain what we are doing.” Naturally, you want everything to go smoothly until it is over, but we will face challenges and need to conquer them. That’s the challenge, is trying to come back to work tomorrow and practice well, put on another good week and get ready for Green Bay.”
As the Lions prepare for their NFC North showdown against the Green Bay Packers, fans are seeing just how dominant this offense can be.
