At 6-2, the Green Bay Packers are firmly entrenched in the early competition for the NFC North and the NFC overall. The Detroit Lions, their opponent this weekend, are now ahead of both and are 6-1. The result of this game might potentially have postseason ramifications because the division’s competition for first place is so close at the midway mark of the season.

Regretfully, some of the important players on both sides are suffering from serious injuries. After breaking his ACL during the Lions’ lopsided victory over the Dallas Cowboys a few weeks ago, Pro Bowl pass rusher Aidan Hutchenson will miss the whole season. Josh Paschal and Brodric Martin, two more defensive linemen, have already been ruled out by Detroit.

A number of the Packers’ players are battling injuries that could impact their availability on Sunday. One of these players, however, has already been ruled out.Evan Williams, a rookie safety who has replaced Xavier McKinney as the second starting safety, will not play against the Lions on Sunday, the Packers announced in their injury report on Friday. In Green Bay’s most recent game, a victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Williams sustained a hamstring injury.
