In some ways, the Green Bay Packers are limping toward their Week 10 bye week, which can’t get here soon enough. The Packers could be without a number of key players for their absolutely massive Week 9 tilt against the Detroit Lions, who are currently leading the NFC North and looking like maybe the best team in the entire NFC.
The Packers have a chance to gain some important ground against the Lions in the NFC North but they are going to have to do it despite a number of question marks. Jordan Love is hopeful to play in this game but his status remains in question. Some key defenders will not likely be available against a dangerous Lions offensive arsenal, including cornerback Jaire Alexander.
This will be a difficult game for the Packers, even if they play at home. It would be a moral victory to even slow down the Lions. But with the Lions leading by three scores, how can the Packers pull off an upset on their own field?
These are our top three audacious game predictions.
Audacious forecasts Packers vs. Lions in the NFC North matchup 1. Jared Goff is forced to throw at least two interceptions by the Packers.
This would not have been a daring prediction at all in the past. Since being traded to the Lions in 2021, Jared Goff has developed into one of the NFL’s most effective quarterbacks, and since late September, he has been playing at an incredible level.
Since the Arizona Cardinals game on September 22, Goff has not thrown an interception. Over the past four games, the player has completed 13 incomplete throws and 10 touchdown passes. It would be an understatement of the year to claim that he is in tune.
The Packers will therefore have to force him to stop playing. In the (anticipated) rainy weather on Sunday, I am going with the audacious forecast that Goff will throw at least two picks due to the Packers’ defense, which has outperformed all other NFL teams this season at forcing turnovers.
2. The defensive triple crown goes to Edgerrin Cooper (1 FF, 1 sack, 1 INT).Edgerrin Cooper, a rookie linebacker for the Packers, has been performing exceptionally well this season, particularly in the team’s victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. Cooper won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award for his nine total tackles, sack, tackle for loss, forced fumble, and pass defense in that game against Jacksonville.
In my opinion, he will go one step further this week and win the NFL defensive equivalent of the triple crown: An interception, a sack, and a forced fumble in the same game. You know what, though? This one is making me feel avaricious. Let us give this post a free bonus bold prediction:
On Sunday, Edgerrin Cooper scores his first defensive touchdown in the NFL against the Lions.
You heard it here first, if it occurs. And it is just the kind of game-altering play that will enable the Packers to accomplish this “upset.
3. Josh Jacobs scores three touchdowns in all.
Josh Jacobs, a running back for the Packers, is among several players on this roster who are sidelined, but he is anticipated to play on Sunday against the Lions. Josh Jacobs’ legacy game is being played in an area that may see inclement conditions.
After his first multi-touchdown performance against the Jaguars last week, Jacobs now has four touchdowns overall this season. Jacobs is on a bit of a hot streak, having scored three touchdowns in his last two games and all four of his this season in October.
