Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell recently spoke with Dan Miller of Fox-2 Detroit, offering his first impressions of the team’s new addition, defensive lineman Za’Darius Smith.

Campbell expressed enthusiasm about Smith’s arrival and the edge he can bring to Detroit’s defensive line.

“It’s great to have him here. He adds toughness,” Campbell shared with Miller. “He’s a smart player who can set the edge and close down the pocket.” Campbell praised Smith’s adaptability, noting he’ll be a strong addition to complement the current defense lineup.

During their conversation, Miller showed Campbell a note that read, “See quarterback, get quarterback.” Campbell responded with a laugh, “I like that. That’ll work. He really brings a lot.”

This exchange highlights the team’s focus on improving their pass rush, especially with Aidan Hutchinson recently sidelined.

Campbell further stated, “I see him as a true defensive end who can get after the quarterback,” underscoring that Smith’s abilities align perfectly with Detroit’s defensive needs.

With Campbell’s support, it’s evident the Lions aim to make a strong push this season. Smith’s addition reinforces the defensive line, signaling Detroit’s determination to compete at a high level. Fans will be eager to see how Smith’s presence will impact the Lions’ defense as they strive for a successful season.
