The Detroit Lions have been one of the top teams in football this season, with Dan Campbell’s squad standing at 7-1 and leading the NFC North after eight games.
They secured a key divisional win against the Green Bay Packers in Week 9 and will head to NRG Stadium to face the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football in Week 10.
Much of Detroit’s success in 2024 is credited to their offense, but Aaron Glenn’s defense, particularly the secondary, remains one of the NFL’s most overlooked units.
Adding Carlton Davis and rookie Terrion Arnold has strengthened the secondary, though the Lions may still need further investment at cornerback in the future.
As Detroit is expected to look for a cornerback this offseason, Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department forecasts the Lions will sign Los Angeles Chargers’ veteran Kristian Fulton in 2025 free agency to improve the secondary.
“Detroit could use more depth at cornerback. While Terrion Arnold has potential, he’s had a rough start to his career. Carlton Davis and Emmanuel Moseley are also pending free agents.”
“This makes exploring the market for a cornerback sensible this spring, and Fulton could be an appealing option as he’s revitalized his career in Los Angeles.”
After an inconsistent time with the Tennessee Titans, Fulton has thrived with the Chargers in 2024. The 2020 second-round pick has allowed a 56.3% completion rate and a 68.8 passer rating when targeted, alongside a 79.1 coverage grade.
Fulton signed a one-year contract with Los Angeles on March 22, betting on himself to revive his career and secure a big payday in 2025. The former LSU player’s risk is paying off, making him a valuable free agent.
If the Lions lose Davis in free agency and are unsure about Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Fulton would be a solid addition to Detroit’s secondary. The 26-year-old has faced injuries and inconsistency but is showing signs of improvement as a reliable starting corner.
