Za’Darius Smith’s debut with the Detroit Lions appears to be delayed.
After joining the team on Friday, the Lions have reportedly decided not to feature the veteran defensive end in their game against the Houston Texans.
As reported by the NFL Network, “Za’Darius Smith, the new pass rusher acquired by the Lions in a trade on Tuesday, is not expected to play tonight. He’s not quite ready.”
The 32-year-old was initially scheduled for a bye week but was traded to Detroit during the deadline.
This week, Smith took a few days to visit his property in Florida to assess hurricane damage and take care of some personal matters. He expressed gratitude to the team for allowing him the time off.
