The Detroit Lions are re-signing wide receiver Maurice Alexander to their practice squad, bringing back a familiar face to the team. Alexander, 27, earned the nickname “Hard Times” due to the difficult circumstances surrounding his birth and the personal challenges he has faced throughout his life. He spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Lions, primarily on the practice squad, where he worked on developing his skills, although he had limited appearances in regular season games.

In 2024, Alexander fought for a spot on the active roster during training camp but ultimately lost out to undrafted rookie Isaiah Williams. Despite not making the final roster, the Lions have decided to bring Alexander back on the practice squad, providing him with another opportunity to contribute to the team as the season progresses.

Meanwhile, the Lions are gearing up for two crucial matchups against the Chicago Bears in the second half of the season. The Bears, under head coach Matt Eberflus, are going through changes after a disappointing performance in their latest game, a 19-3 loss to the Patriots at home. Eberflus made the decision to part ways with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, just 10 months into Waldron’s tenure.

Eberflus explained his decision to move in a different direction with the offense, stating it was a well-considered move made in the best interests of the team. He thanked Waldron for his efforts but emphasized that the change was necessary to improve the Bears’ offensive operations going forward. Waldron’s departure adds another layer of uncertainty for the Bears as they continue to struggle on offense this season.

John Maakaron, a veteran sports journalist, provided the report. Maakaron has extensive experience covering Detroit sports, including the Lions, Tigers, and local college teams.
