The Detroit Lions might soon experience significant shifts in their leadership, as recent speculation suggests an AFC team could aim to lure away one of their top executives and team him up with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their new head coach.

Jaguars Eyeing Major Changes

NFL analyst Chad Forbes has predicted that the Jacksonville Jaguars may look to acquire Lions’ chief operating officer Mike Disner, intending for him to succeed Trent Baalke as general manager. Disner’s longstanding tenure with the Lions has made him a prominent figure, and his potential departure to Jacksonville would create a considerable shake-up in Detroit’s management.

Forbes further projected that Disner’s primary move in Jacksonville would be to bring in Ben Johnson as the Jaguars’ next head coach. Johnson, widely praised for his work with Detroit’s offense, has previously been a top candidate for head coaching positions, and his relationship with Disner could facilitate this transition.

Why Disner and Johnson?

Disner played a pivotal role in the Lions’ successful restructuring alongside general manager Brad Holmes, making him an attractive option for other teams. Last year, he was approached by the Carolina Panthers for their general manager role, though he ultimately withdrew his candidacy. This time, Forbes anticipates that Disner will take the Jaguars job, with the opportunity to promote Johnson to a head coaching position.

While the loss of both a top executive and coordinator would be a setback for the Lions, it highlights the progress Detroit has achieved under its current leadership. Their reputation for nurturing talent both on the field and in management has established the Lions as an appealing destination for professionals.

Potential Move for Aaron Glenn

Alongside the rumored departures of Disner and Johnson, Forbes also suggests that Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn could be in line for the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching role. Glenn, who has strong connections to the Saints as a former assistant, would be a natural fit and may even be a leading candidate.

As the 2024-2025 NFL season unfolds, Detroit fans will be closely watching these potential moves, with the Jaguars aiming to transform their organization by attracting the talent that has driven Detroit’s recent success.
