As the Detroit Lions focus on the 2025 season, some veteran players might be on their way out as the team builds for the future. Here are four players who are unlikely to return in 2025, with cap numbers from Over The Cap:

1. DE Marcus Davenport ($6.5 Million Current APY)

Davenport, a former first-round pick, has barely made an impact with the Lions due to health issues. His $6.5 million average salary would need to drop significantly for the Lions to consider keeping him. Without agreeing to a minimum contract, Davenport’s chances of staying are low. Chance of re-signing: 5%

2. S Ifeatu Melifonwu ($1,172,558 Current APY)

Melifonwu has struggled with injuries, and with standout safeties like Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, his role has diminished. With limited playing opportunities and a history of injuries, it seems unlikely the Lions will bring him back. Chance of re-signing: 15%

3. CB Emmanuel Moseley ($2,875,000 Current APY)

Moseley, brought in to strengthen the cornerback position, has also faced injury issues. The Lions may look to add cheaper or higher-potential players in free agency or the draft, meaning Moseley would need to accept a pay cut to stay. Unless he agrees to a team-friendly deal, his future in Detroit is uncertain. Chance of re-signing: 10%

4. EDGE John Cominsky ($3,000,000 Current APY)

Cominsky was a reliable presence on the Lions’ defensive line before 2024, earning praise from coach Dan Campbell for his leadership. However, with the Lions focused on developing their pass rush, they might target a long-term EDGE option in the draft. If Cominsky is not open to a reduced role or contract, he may be playing elsewhere in 2025. Chance of re-signing: 30%

As the Lions focus on the future, these veterans may not fit into their long-term strategy. With available cap space and the draft, Detroit is likely to face tough decisions to strengthen their roster for 2025.
