NFL analysts often share controversial opinions, but Nick Wright’s recent remarks about Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff are sparking debate.

Despite the Lions’ remarkable 9-1 record and their dominant 52-6 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Wright dismissed Goff’s ability to lead a championship team.

On Monday’s episode of First Things First, Wright claimed, “I don’t think you can be the best team in the league when you have a civilian at quarterback.”

He argued that, even with Goff’s strong stats and the Lions’ success, winning three straight playoff games with Goff under center would be a tough feat.

Wright clarified that Goff is “a good guy” but insisted he doesn’t compare to elite quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen. Wright doubled down, saying, “In the modern NFL, it’s very, very difficult to win three straight playoff games with a guy, even if he’s a good guy, at quarterback.”

These comments caught Lions fans off guard, given Goff’s stellar performances, including his recent game where he completed 24-of-29 passes for 412 yards and four touchdowns.

This season, Goff has thrown for nearly 2,500 yards with 20 touchdowns while leading the league’s top-ranked offense.

Despite these achievements, Wright remains unconvinced of Goff’s ability to lead Detroit to a Super Bowl, reinforcing a common belief that non-elite quarterbacks struggle in high-pressure playoff games.

Still, the Lions, with key contributors like Amon-Ra St. Brown, David Montgomery, and a strong defense led by Kerby Joseph, continue to defy expectations.

Goff, accustomed to such critiques, has proven he can lead and perform under pressure. With their high-powered offense, the Lions are poised to challenge this narrative and push for a championship.

Detroit faces the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12, offering Goff another chance to prove doubters wrong. If he and the Lions maintain their dominant run, they could silence critics like Nick Wright for good.
