Detroit Lions fans, are you exhausted by Kelly Stafford’s constant references to your team? Well, brace yourselves, because she’s back with yet another round of commentary about the Lions.
Despite her attempts to distance herself, Kelly finds a way to bring up the team whenever possible. This time, her focus isn’t solely on her husband, Matthew Stafford, but also on Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and his struggles, which somehow reminded her of Matthew’s challenging years in Detroit.
On her podcast, The Morning After Media, Kelly made a comparison that’s sure to annoy Lions fans. As she discussed Burrow’s difficulties with the Bengals, she shifted from sounding like an average football fan to someone who seemed to have lived through those tough times firsthand.
“Bengals and the Chargers, that was such a good game. It was impressive,” Kelly said, as reported by MSN. “To be honest, it’s reminding me of when Matthew played on the Lions for a bit. Like, you can tell how good and talented he is, it’s just the team is not winning, and that is frustrating.”
Here we go again. Just when Lions fans hoped to leave the Stafford era behind, Kelly pops up to remind everyone of the years spent in the NFL’s basement. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to relive the days of Stafford putting up impressive yardage… with little to show for it?
While Burrow’s struggles are undoubtedly hard to watch, especially for a talented quarterback on a losing team, it does seem like Kelly is reaching to link his situation to Matthew’s time in Detroit.
It’s almost as if every time a QB faces challenges, Kelly feels compelled to draw comparisons to the glory days of Lions football.
And so, here we are again, subjected to this because Kelly Stafford just can’t seem to keep the Detroit Lions out of her conversation.
Let’s hope, for the sake of our sanity (and the Bengals’ season), that there aren’t too many more comparisons to come. Until then, we’ll have to grin and bear it while Kelly continues to throw in the occasional Lions story, for reasons we can’t quite figure out.
