The Detroit Lions secured a dominant 24-6 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, November 24, but the victory was overshadowed by a series of injuries that plagued the team in the second half. Multiple players seemed to be leaving the field one after another, and one of the most concerning injuries was to wide receiver Kalif Raymond. Raymond suffered a foot injury during a punt return and was initially taken to the locker room. Though he briefly returned to the sideline, he was later carried off and ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided an update on Raymond and the other injured players after the game. He mentioned that while he didn’t have all the details, three players—left tackle Taylor Decker, running back David Montgomery, and cornerback Carlton Davis—seemed to be in better shape than Raymond. Campbell noted that Raymond’s injury could be more serious, but he didn’t have further specifics at that time. He also made it clear that no players were guaranteed to be ready for the team’s next game on Thursday.
Decker had some knee and ankle issues after quarterback Jared Goff was shoved into the back of his legs, forcing him to leave the game temporarily. However, Decker returned to play before being pulled again late in the game. Montgomery also briefly left the field without his helmet and pads but later returned to the sideline in uniform, although he did not return to the game. Davis suffered a knee injury and was unable to continue playing.
Despite the concerns about Raymond’s injury, there were more optimistic updates for some players. According to reports from Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Montgomery and Decker both expressed confidence that they would be ready to play in the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day game against the Chicago Bears. However, Davis, who suffered a left knee injury, stated that he would need to wait for imaging results to have a clearer picture of his status.
Although the Lions’ injury situation is concerning, the team remains in strong form, sitting at 10-1 for the season after their win over the Colts. Despite a short turnaround for their next game, with the Thanksgiving matchup against the Bears just days away, the Lions are hoping to have most of their key players available to maintain their successful season.
