The Detroit Lions improved their record to 10-1 with a 24-6 win against former NFL Coach of the Year Shane Steichen’s Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday. After taking a 14-6 lead in the first half, the Lions maintained their control throughout the game.
This win was significant not only for the team’s commanding performance but also because coach Dan Campbell’s Lions set an NFL record, powered by their dominant offensive line and dynamic backfield duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Although the Lions outrushed the Colts 137-96—far from their most impressive effort this season—they still managed to score three rushing touchdowns. Gibbs contributed two, while Montgomery added one, helping Detroit achieve a historic milestone dating back to the NFL’s inception in 1920.
Following the game, the NFL Communications team highlighted the Lions’ achievement in its “Seven From Sunday” column, noting the unprecedented feat Campbell’s team had accomplished.
“Including the postseason, Detroit has rushed for a touchdown in 25 consecutive games, the longest streak in NFL history,” the article stated.
The Lions also eclipsed the legendary 1974-1976 Miami Dolphins, coached by Don Shula, by rushing for a touchdown in their 22nd straight regular-season game.
Detroit now trails only two teams for the longest regular-season streaks: the 1959-62 Green Bay Packers (35 games) and the 2003-2005 San Francisco 49ers.
