The Detroit Lions, dealing with defensive injuries, signed former Pro Bowl linebacker Kwon Alexander on Friday. Two days later, they made another big move.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday that the Lions are adding three-time Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams to their practice squad, intending to promote him to the active roster.
Adams, 29, played three games for the Tennessee Titans this season before being released on Oct. 17, his birthday. Now in his eighth NFL season, Detroit marks his fourth team.
Before the announcement, Adams shared a brief message on social media.
“God is good,” he posted on X Saturday evening.
A 2017 first-round pick by the New York Jets, Adams earned All-Pro honors in 2019. His career stats include 498 tackles, 36 pass breakups, 21.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and four interceptions.
Injuries have limited Adams since 2021, including a shoulder labrum tear, quad tear, and knee strain over recent seasons.
The Lions’ safety corps features Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, with undrafted players Loren Strickland and Brandon Joseph providing depth.
Detroit boasts the NFL’s best record at 11-1 following a 23-20 Thanksgiving win over the Bears. They face three NFC North rivals in their final five games, including a prime-time clash with the Packers on “Thursday Night Football” this week.
