The Chiefs are facing issues with their offensive line, especially after relying on raw, young linemen like Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris at left tackle. These struggles led the Chiefs to sign veteran D.J. Humphries in the hope that his experience would stabilize the position.
The Chiefs also face the possibility of losing Trey Smith, a starting guard, to free agency in 2025. With Smith likely seeking a lucrative contract, the Chiefs may be forced to find a replacement. Zeitler could be the ideal fit, offering immediate help with his proven ability to perform at a high level.
Despite Zeitler’s strong fit in Kansas City, the Chiefs face competition in acquiring him. The Lions, with significantly more cap space in 2025, will likely try to retain him. Other NFL teams will also be in the running for his services, making it a competitive market for the veteran guard.
The Chiefs are projected to have $21.8 million in cap space next offseason, while the Lions are expected to have $62 million.
