This week, the Detroit Lions signed three-time Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams, shortly after Adams requested his release from the Tennessee Titans.
Adams has been among the NFL’s elite safeties since being drafted out of LSU as the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
On Monday, Detroit Football Network beat reporter Justin Rodgers shared a notable update from Lions practice, hinting at possible changes for defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s unit.
“No (Josh) Paschal, Levi (Onwuzurike), (DJ) Reader, or (Taylor) Decker at Lions practice,” Rodgers reported. “Reader banged up his shoulder in the game (vs. Chicago), but told me he was fine in the locker room afterward. “Notable, Jamal Adams is doing position drills with LBs.”
At 6-foot-1 and 213 pounds, Adams is close to the size of a traditional linebacker. A dependable tackler, he recorded a career-high 115 tackles during his second NFL season with the Jets in 2016.
With linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez out for the season due to an ACL tear, the Lions may have signed Adams to fill the void.
Rodriguez sustained the injury during Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day victory over the Bears, a game that ended with Chicago’s comeback attempt falling short, leading to Matt Eberflus losing his job as Bears coach.
