The Green Bay Packers missed a key chance to gain ground in the NFC North Division on Thursday night, aiming for their first season win over the Detroit Lions in the Motor City.
Despite facing a Lions team dealing with injuries on defense, the Packers fell to their division rivals for the sixth time in seven games, losing 34-31 to a Jared Goff-led offense.
Following the game, Packers quarterback Jordan Love didn’t hold back when sharing his perspective on the Lions’ defensive performance.
Love commented on the Packers’ struggles, suggesting they were their own worst enemy against what he described as an underwhelming defense led by coach Aaron Glenn.
“We knew that, especially offensively, (the first half) wasn’t our best half,” Love said, emphasizing that the Packers needed to focus on execution and playmaking.
“It wasn’t like they were doing anything that was really stopping us. I think we were just hurting ourselves and not executing.”
The Packers were outgained in total yardage, 391 to 298, highlighting their offensive challenges.
Love acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly in high-scoring games like Thursday’s, to compete with teams of Detroit’s caliber.
“So, the message was to just go and find a way to make plays and continue to put up points,” he said. “It just didn’t feel good putting up seven points and facing the issues we had early, but guys responded.”
