Aaron Glenn might still consider a “dream” head coaching role, based on a statement he made a couple of years ago.
As the Detroit Lions’ defense thrives despite injuries and rotating personnel, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s credentials for a head coaching position continue to improve.
Glenn is expected to interview for multiple head coaching positions in the upcoming hiring cycle. Given the strong situation in Detroit, it’s likely he will carefully evaluate any opportunities before leaving.
His past relationships and history with certain organizations might influence his decision, particularly with teams like the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets, where he has strong ties.
Does Aaron Glenn Still Consider the Jets His ‘Dream Job’?
On a recent episode of “Flight Deck with Rich Cimini,” ESPN’s Jets reporter Rich Cimini discussed head coaching rumors, including Glenn as a potential candidate to replace Robert Saleh.
Cimini noted that Glenn had interviewed for the Jets’ head coaching job in 2021, prior to Saleh’s hiring. He also shared a personal insight about Glenn’s interest in the role.
“I’ve known Aaron for a long time,” Cimini said. “I remember talking to him about two years ago, and he said coaching the Jets would be a dream job. I don’t know if that’s still the case, but I believe he’d be very interested in the position.”
Cimini featured former Jets safety Victor Green, Glenn’s teammate from 1994 to 2001, as a guest on the show. Green strongly endorsed Glenn for the Jets’ head coach role, reaffirming his stance on social media when the team began searching for new leadership.
The Jets’ decision to involve The 33rd Team, a group led by former general manager Mike Tannenbaum, in their search for a new coach almost guarantees Glenn will be a candidate. Tannenbaum, who originally hired Glenn as a Jets scout, has publicly praised Glenn’s abilities in recent years.
While Cimini acknowledged that Glenn’s perspective on the Jets job might have changed over the past two years, the connection adds an intriguing layer to Glenn’s status as a leading head coaching candidate.
