Detroit Lions pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson was initially expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a fractured tibia and fibula in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys. However, there is now growing optimism that Hutchinson could return much sooner than anticipated.
According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Lions are hopeful that Hutchinson could be back in time for the NFC Championship, should the team make it that far. This would mark a recovery period of just over three months, an impressive turnaround for the injured player.
Glazer provided an update on Hutchinson’s rehab, stating that the player has been using an underwater treadmill to aid his recovery and is already able to walk on land. Though he’s supposed to rely on a cane, Hutchinson has been moving without it, and the team is encouraged by his progress. Lions head coach Dan Campbell has expressed cautious optimism, noting that Hutchinson’s return could depend on how his recovery progresses and how much practice he can get in before any potential return to action.
The possibility of Hutchinson playing in the Super Bowl was discussed shortly after his injury, but now, there’s even more hope that he could return for the NFC Championship. This report suggests that the Lions’ expectations for his recovery are higher than initially thought.
Having already secured a playoff spot following their win over Green Bay, the Lions are in control of the top seed in the NFC and could earn a bye. If they hold onto that position, they would need just one win to reach the NFC Championship, where Hutchinson could potentially return as a key player.
Before his injury, Hutchinson was having an outstanding season, recording 7.5 sacks in just five games. Any contribution he can make in the playoffs would be a significant boost to the Lions as they aim for their first Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
