Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is fully aware of the formidable challenge his team will face when they take on the Buffalo Bills on December 15. With both teams vying for top spots in their respective conferences—the Lions leading the NFC and the Bills aiming to catch the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC’s No. 1 seed—the game promises to be an exciting matchup between two high-powered offenses. Campbell knows his defense will be tested against Bills quarterback Josh Allen, a frontrunner for the MVP award this season, who has been setting NFL records in consecutive games.
Campbell Prepares for a Tough Battle Against Allen
Campbell has warned his team about the tough task ahead, recognizing the unique threat posed by Allen. “He’s got an elite arm, he’s accurate, and he reads defenses well,” Campbell said. “Then, he’s a physical runner—he can break tackles or evade defenders, whether he’s running inside or getting to the perimeter. This is going to be a massive challenge for us, no question.”
Although Campbell hasn’t done a full analysis of Allen’s game yet, he’s already impressed by the quarterback’s improvement, particularly in taking care of the football. While Allen struggled with interceptions last year, he’s been much more disciplined this season, throwing just five picks. “He’s taking what the defense gives him, and when things aren’t there, he uses his legs. He’s definitely a more patient player now, and that’s making him even more dangerous,” Campbell noted.
Allen’s Record-Breaking Streak
Allen has been in remarkable form recently, setting two NFL records in his last two games. In a victory over the San Francisco 49ers, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for a touchdown, rush for a touchdown, and catch a touchdown in a single game. Last week, in a 44-42 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Allen set another historic mark, becoming the first player ever to record three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in one game.
Rams head coach Sean McVay, who faced Allen last week, praised the Bills quarterback’s all-around abilities, describing him as a “nightmare” to defend. “He can escape the pocket, keep his eyes downfield, and make big plays with his arm or his legs,” McVay said. “You can’t just sit back and hope to contain him. He can beat you in so many ways—he’s why he’s a legitimate MVP contender and one of the best players in the league.”
