Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph is known as one of the hardest hitters and most effective players in the NFL, but his aggressive tackling style hasn’t always been met with praise.
Recently, Joseph noticed a controversial label given to him by a prominent NFL reporter and responded with a humorous post on X to address it.
“Naw man that’s the wrong DPOY,” Joseph wrote, adding three laughing and crying emojis as he retweeted NFL writer Dov Kleiman’s post, which revealed Joseph was voted the ‘Dirtiest Player’ in the league.
Joseph’s tweet jokingly referenced the Defensive Player of the Year award, an official honor presented at the end of the season.
The former Illinois standout has had a strong season under coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, recording seven interceptions, 10 pass break-ups, and 41 tackles, helping the Lions’ injury-plagued defense stay competitive.
Joseph earned the “dirty” reputation last season when former Lions and current Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford called him “dirty as (expletive),” a label Joseph has struggled to shake.
“TBH y’all just calling me dirty cs y’all favorite QB said it and that he seen it on film lol,” Joseph tweeted recently as a follow-up.
