The Detroit Lions have been without defensive end Aidan Hutchinson for most of the season. Despite their impressive 12-2 record, his absence has been a significant challenge for the team.

On December 17, the NFL Network‘s “Good Morning Football” aired a segment from “The Squeeze,” where Hutchinson shared his determination to recover from a broken leg and play in the Super Bowl.

During the interview, Hutchinson confirmed he’s aiming to return for the championship game, assuming the Lions make it that far.

Hutchinson Eyes Super Bowl Comeback

“I’m focused on returning for the Super Bowl,” Hutchinson declared on “The Squeeze.”

“I keep telling the guys, ‘Just get us there, and I’ll be back,’” he added. He shared a conversation with his mom, who expressed concern about his recovery, but Hutchinson insisted, “There’s no other way.”

He also revealed progress in his recovery, mentioning that he’s now walking with just one crutch.

Hutchinson recounted the moment of his injury, reflecting on how it abruptly ended a career-best season.

“I was in a flow state, having the best year, and then it all got ripped away,” he said. “When they put the air cast on my leg, I remember thinking, ‘I can’t play in the Super Bowl, and my Defensive Player of the Year season is over.’”

Now, Hutchinson is optimistic. If the Lions win out, reach the NFC Championship, and secure a Super Bowl berth, he believes he’ll be ready to play.

Another Potential Return for Detroit

Running back David Montgomery, injured on December 15 against the Bills, was initially ruled out for the season by head coach Dan Campbell. However, Montgomery’s status remains uncertain.

Campbell shared an update on December 18, explaining the team is awaiting a third medical opinion before deciding.

“David’s consulting another specialist,” Campbell said. “We’re waiting to see what this opinion brings, which is why we haven’t placed him on injured reserve yet.”
