Lions head coach Dan Campbell is unsure whether running back David Montgomery’s season has ended, but he’s feeling more hopeful than earlier in the week.n Monday, Campbell had anticipated Montgomery would be out for the remainder of the season, but after further medical evaluations, there is now some optimism that Montgomery might avoid injured reserve and could potentially return for the playoffs, if not the final three regular-season games.

Campbell shared, “There’s some optimism after seeing a couple of doctors. We’ll have to see how things progress. There’s still a decision to make, as even if he’s cleared, we need to decide whether to place him on IR or see how quickly he recovers. But the outlook is definitely more positive now.”

If the Lions opt to place Montgomery on injured reserve at this point, he would miss at least the wild card round of the playoffs. Despite several injuries, the Lions are still holding strong as the projected No. 1 seed in the NFC, which would give them a first-round bye, possibly allowing Montgomery to return sooner.
