Coach Dan Campbell announced on Thursday that the Lions signed Bridgewater as an additional backup quarterback, with second-year player Hendon Hooker serving as the backup to starter Jared Goff. Detroit has already secured a playoff spot and can clinch the top seed in the NFC with two more victories.
Bridgewater, who was with the Lions as a backup during the 2023 season, saw action in a blowout win over Carolina, where he played three snaps.
In the fall, Bridgewater coached at his high school, Miami Northwestern, leading the team to a Florida Class 3A state championship.
A former first-round draft pick by Minnesota in 2014, Bridgewater has started 65 games throughout his NFL career. He spent two years with New Orleans while Campbell was an assistant there.
Hendon Hooker has appeared in three games this season, completing 6 of 9 passes for 62 yards.
