Typically, the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings face off on the field, contending for the NFC North crown. This season, that rivalry is heightened with both teams tied in record as they approach crucial Week 17 games. Each team remains in the race for the top seed and a first-round bye in the NFC Playoffs.

Despite the Lions’ 31-29 victory over the Vikings, Minnesota can claim the NFC’s top spot by beating Detroit in the final game and securing a win against Green Bay. Head coach Kevin O’Connell, a Coach of the Year frontrunner, could see his team clinch the top seed. However, soon both teams may battle off the field for an All-Pro player.

Six-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Calais Campbell may soon be on a team missing the playoffs. While the 7-8 Miami Dolphins remain in the hunt, elimination this weekend could lead to Campbell’s release.

If Miami exits the postseason race, Campbell, a 38-year-old veteran, is expected to be cut. As a vested veteran, he would go through waivers, giving teams with lower records the first opportunity to claim him.

However, several playoff contenders are reportedly interested in acquiring Campbell. Dolphins insider Omar Kelly identified the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Kansas City Chiefs as teams likely to pursue him.

Lions, Vikings, Chiefs Target Campbell

The Chiefs, aiming for a third consecutive Super Bowl, might be Campbell’s best opportunity to secure a championship. His partnership with Chris Jones could provide significant defensive benefits. However, the Lions and Vikings are also eager to pursue Campbell, potentially blocking the Chiefs and bolstering their own playoff chances. Campbell currently ranks third among active players in career sacks.

For Campbell, joining any of these three teams offers a meaningful chance to win his first Super Bowl ring. In Kansas City, he could chase history with a three-peat. Meanwhile, the Lions, dealing with injuries, could benefit from his experience. The Vikings, lacking elite defensive linemen, might rely on Campbell’s veteran leadership as they push for the postseason.
