The Detroit Lions are currently focused on their playoff push, having earned a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed in the NFC. They will be facing the Washington Commanders in the upcoming Divisional Round. However, with their postseason journey underway, speculation about the offseason has already begun.

ESPN’s analysts recently shared their predictions for all 32 NFL teams, covering topics like free agency and the draft. One notable discussion involved the Cleveland Browns, where Benjamin Solak predicted that they might trade cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome. With the Browns not in immediate contention, Solak expects the team to make moves to acquire future draft picks. Ward, a four-time Pro Bowler, had a stellar season, leading the NFL with 19 pass deflections. Given that the Lions have been working to strengthen their secondary, adding a player like Ward could significantly boost their defense.

The Lions, who acquired Carlton Davis earlier in the year, are at risk of losing him in free agency, as he is currently sidelined with a broken jaw. Given this, Ward’s addition could shore up their defensive backfield. The 27-year-old cornerback has 17 career interceptions and over 300 tackles, making him a prime candidate for the Lions to target.

If Detroit were to send their 2025 first-round pick to Cleveland, it could be the boost their defense needs. Ward is signed through 2027, meaning he could be a long-term fixture alongside other young defensive players like Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph, and Terrion Arnold. This move would be a smart one for the Lions to consider after the season ends.
