The NFL has fined Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu twice for penalties that were missed by officials during last week’s victory over the Lions. One of the infractions was particularly significant: Luvu made a helmet-to-helmet hit on Lions quarterback Jared Goff after Goff threw an interception, which was returned for a touchdown. If the penalty had been called, the touchdown would have been negated, though the interception would still stand. The hit caused Goff to undergo a concussion evaluation, sidelining him for the Lions’ next offensive series. Luvu was fined $16,883 for this hit.
Later in the same game, Luvu made a hip-drop tackle on Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, which also went unpenalized but led to another fine of $16,883.
