Aaron Glenn recently opened up about the challenges of transitioning from Detroit Lions defensive coordinator to head coach of the New York Jets. In a candid conversation on Sirius XM’s Movin’ the Chains, Glenn revealed a humorous exchange with his former boss, Dan Campbell, shortly after taking the Jets job. Glenn joked, “The first thing I told Dan Campbell, I called him and almost cursed, I said, ‘Why didn’t you tell me about everything else that comes with it?’” He elaborated that since stepping into the head coaching role, he hasn’t had much time to focus on football strategy. “I haven’t discussed Cover 2, Cover 1, or stretch plays. It’s all the other responsibilities that come with the position,” he explained. Despite the overwhelming duties, Glenn expressed his enthusiasm for the role, saying, “I’m excited for every day I get to wake up and be the head coach of this team. There aren’t many people who can say that, so I don’t take it for granted.”

Glenn also took a moment to praise Campbell’s leadership, describing him as a genuinely authentic person, which he values highly in the coaching profession. “Let me say this about Dan first and foremost. He is as real as it gets, and you don’t find that often in this business,” Glenn remarked. He then spoke about his own coaching philosophy, emphasizing his commitment to excellence while maintaining a supportive approach. “I’m a demanding coach, but not a demeaning one. I’ll do everything I can to help you get better every day, and that will ultimately help the team improve,” Glenn said. His focus on authenticity and player development reflects his strong vision for the Jets in the coming seasons.
