
Matt Patricia, the former head coach of the Detroit Lions, has secured a new role as the defensive coordinator at Ohio State. Patricia, who coached the Lions from 2018 to 2020, posted a disappointing 13-29 record before being let go mid-season in 2020.
Following his time with the Lions, Patricia served in various advisory and coaching roles, including as a senior football advisor and offensive line coach with the New England Patriots, and as a senior defensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles. He took a break from coaching in 2024.
Now, Patricia joins Ohio State’s coaching staff under head coach Ryan Day. Despite a tough loss to Michigan and finishing fourth in the Big Ten, the Buckeyes made it to the College Football Playoffs, where they won the 2024 National Championship.
