The veteran quarterback has agreed to a new contract with the Los Angeles Rams, ensuring he remains the team’s leader under center. ESPN reported the agreement on Friday, putting an end to speculation about Stafford’s future.

Earlier this offseason, there were reports that Stafford was unhappy with his contract, leading to speculation that the Rams could move on from their Super Bowl-winning quarterback. Stafford still had two years and $58 million remaining on his previous deal, but the Rams’ willingness to allow him to explore potential trade options added to the uncertainty.

Last week, the Rams granted Stafford permission to speak with other teams, fueling rumors that he could be on the move. However, after discussions, the team and quarterback have now reached a new agreement, securing his place in Los Angeles.

Stafford, who turned 37 earlier this month, proved in 2024 that he remains a high-level NFL starter despite his age. In his 16th NFL season, he completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 3,762 yards, throwing 20 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. He helped guide the Rams to the playoffs, demonstrating his continued ability to compete at a high level.

The 2024 campaign marked Stafford’s fourth season with the Rams after he spent his first 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions. Since joining Los Angeles in 2021, he has been instrumental in the team’s success, leading them to a Super Bowl LVI victory in his first year with the franchise.

By securing Stafford for the near future, the Rams maintain stability at quarterback as they look to remain contenders in the NFC. With head coach Sean McVay still at the helm and Stafford locked in, the Rams will aim to build around their veteran signal-caller as they push for another deep postseason run.

While contract details have yet to be fully disclosed, the agreement signals that both Stafford and the Rams believe in their continued partnership. With the uncertainty now behind him, Stafford can focus on leading Los Angeles into the 2025 season with high expectations.
