As free agency approaches, the Detroit Lions will soon face crucial decisions regarding potential roster moves. General manager Brad Holmes has consistently emphasized his commitment to building the team primarily through the NFL Draft. However, that doesn’t rule out the possibility of pursuing a high-profile free agent if the right opportunity arises.

According to Max Gerber of Pride of Detroit, one notable player the Lions might consider targeting is wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Could DeAndre Hopkins Be a Good Fit for the Lions?

Gerber suggests that signing Hopkins could be a strategic move for Detroit. Despite being 32 years old, the veteran wideout remains a reliable offensive weapon. In the 2024 season, he recorded 56 catches for 610 yards and five touchdowns, demonstrating that he still has plenty to offer. Beyond his on-field production, Hopkins has also earned praise for his leadership, with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid commending his ability to mentor younger receivers.

Adding Hopkins to the Lions’ receiving corps would bring a wealth of experience, potentially elevating the team’s offensive firepower. With projected contract figures ranging from $6 million to $15 million per year, the key question for Detroit will be whether they can secure him at a reasonable price. Pairing him alongside Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown could create a formidable trio capable of making a significant impact.

DeAndre Hopkins’ 2024 Stats

  • Games Played: 10 (5 starts)
  • Receptions: 41
  • Yards: 437
  • Touchdowns: 4

Should the Lions Make a Move?

Bringing Hopkins to Detroit is an intriguing option, but financial considerations will play a major role. If the Lions can negotiate a deal in the range of $10 million or less for a short-term contract (one to two years), it could be a smart investment. However, if his asking price nears $15 million per season, Detroit may be better off exploring other options.
