The Detroit Lions have reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension with linebacker Derrick Barnes, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal could be worth as much as $25.5 million over the next three years, with $16 million fully guaranteed upon signing.
Barnes, who is recovering from a torn PCL and MCL in his right knee, may not be ready for the start of the 2025 season. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Lions in 2021, marking the first draft under general manager Brad Holmes. Over his four seasons in the NFL, Barnes has played in 51 games, accumulating 205 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, and four sacks. His most notable moment with the Lions came in the divisional round of the 2024 playoffs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he made a crucial interception that helped the team secure a spot in the NFC Championship Game.
