Governor Declares Second Saturday in March “Faturday” to Honor Detroit Superfan Andy Isaac
Andy Isaac, a beloved Detroit sports superfan, has been commemorated in Michigan with a special day now known as “Faturday.”
Earlier this week, the Detroit sports community mourned the loss of Isaac, a local legend who became well-known for his humorous takes on food, sports enthusiasm, and his disdain for the Chicago Bears through his popular Twitter account, @WorldOfIsaac. Despite battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma for over twenty years, Isaac passed away peacefully on Thursday, surrounded by his loved ones.
Isaac had a profound impact on sports fans, whether they knew him personally or not. This was evident from the outpouring of support across local and national media. To honor his legacy, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer officially declared the second Saturday in March as “Faturday,” a day dedicated to Isaac’s humorous pursuit of the best food in the state.
“Michigan is home to the most passionate sports fans in the nation, and Andy Isaac embodied everything that makes us proud to be Michigan sports supporters,” said Governor Whitmer in a statement. “Through his humor, dedication, and love for Detroit teams, Andy made cheering for our sports more enjoyable. He brought joy to so many lives, always asking, ‘Tell me something good that happened to you recently.’ Today, we honor Andy by celebrating ‘Faturday’ on March 8 and doing something positive for Michigan. I lost my mom to cancer, so I understand how many Michiganders have experienced similar losses. As Andy would say, ‘FTB!’”
So, if you’re reading this on March 8, 2025, enjoy Faturday and celebrate the life of Andy Isaac!
