The Detroit Lions have re-signed cornerback Khalil Dorsey for the 2025 season, though contract details have not been disclosed. Dorsey originally entered the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens. After spending a couple of years in Baltimore, he joined the Lions’ practice squad in late 2022. Since then, he has made significant contributions as a special teams player and a depth cornerback. In 2023, he logged 248 special teams snaps, followed by 272 snaps the following year, playing key roles as both a gunner and jammer on the punt teams.
Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp has praised Dorsey for his impact, calling him an “incredible player” and highlighting his exceptional play, particularly in holding off opposing gunners during punt returns.
Sadly, Dorsey suffered a severe leg injury during the Lions’ Week 15 matchup against Buffalo, breaking both his tibia and fibula, which required emergency surgery. Despite this setback, Dorsey remains optimistic about his recovery, drawing on previous experience overcoming injuries. He has focused on regaining his confidence and speed, which he believes will take some time.
Though it is unclear when Dorsey will be fully cleared, with initial recovery projections set between four and six months, his re-signing suggests the Lions are confident in his return and expect him to contribute during the upcoming season.
In addition to Dorsey, the Lions bolstered their cornerback depth with the recent signing of veteran Rock Ya-Sin. The team’s cornerback group is beginning to take shape, with D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, Amik Robertson, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Ya-Sin, Dorsey, and Stantley Thomas-Oliver all under contract for the 2025 season.
