The Detroit Lions are considered to have one of the most robust rosters in the NFL. Despite falling to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs last season, the team entered this year as a strong Super Bowl contender and is expected to maintain that status in 2025.

However, even the most talented teams cannot afford to be complacent. Quarterback Jared Goff struggled during the postseason loss to Washington, and while the Lions already boast two standout wide receivers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, adding another top target could elevate their offense even further.

In their latest mock draft, CBS Sports has Detroit selecting Luther Burden III, a wide receiver from the University of Missouri, with the 28th overall pick. Despite a dip in his 2024 production—where he totaled 676 yards and six touchdowns on 61 receptions—Burden is still considered a top-tier prospect. The year prior, he posted 1,212 yards and nine touchdowns with 86 catches. Across three college seasons, Burden accumulated 2,263 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Burden is known for his impressive speed, clocking a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, and his athleticism has been described as elite. Scouts praise his ability to make plays after the catch, adding an additional dimension to his game.

With Detroit already leading the NFL in points and first downs last season, the addition of Burden could make their offense even more potent as he adapts to the professional level.
