The Detroit Lions have reached an agreement with former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox on a one-year contract, according to a source close to the situation who confirmed the deal to UPI on Friday. Maddox, 28, played seven seasons with the Eagles, where he recorded 20 tackles and five pass deflections across 17 games in the previous season. He was drafted by the Eagles as a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

In 2021, Maddox signed a three-year, $22.5 million extension with Philadelphia, but the team released him earlier this month, freeing up nearly $2 million in cap space. Maddox will now join the Lions’ secondary, which includes players such as D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, Brian Branch, and Kerby Joseph.
