Dan Campbell Highlights the “Next Challenge” for the Lions as They Gear Up for the 2025 Season
The Detroit Lions finished an impressive 15-2 last season but have once again faced significant roster changes in the offseason, with key players like Za’Darius Smith and Carlton Davis III not being retained. While there have been talks of potentially bringing Smith back at a reduced rate, many questions still remain as the team finalizes its roster ahead of fall camp.
On Tuesday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell shared his thoughts on what lies ahead, including the “next challenge” his team must face as the offseason progresses toward the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin, later this month.
“We’ve experienced the highs and lows, we’ve gone through it all, so this is our next hurdle,” Campbell said, as reported by Colton Pouncy of The Athletic. “So if people focus on what we’ve lost, to me, that undermines the effort of the players in the locker room.”
The Lions are accustomed to roster turnover, having previously seen franchise-record-setting running back Jamaal Williams leave for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. Now, it will be up to Campbell and the Lions’ management team to unite the roster and position Detroit as a Super Bowl contender—if not a champion—in the 2025-2026 season.
