Detroit Lions President Makes Confident Prediction About 2025 Injury Outlook
The 2024 Detroit Lions were a dominant force, but not even their grit, strong team culture, or a remarkable 15-win season could shield them from the injury plague. From star players to key secondary members and depth contributors, the Lions’ injury report seemed more like a full roster at times.
However, team president Rod Wood is optimistic that those injury struggles are behind them. In his eyes, that unfortunate stretch of bad luck is now a thing of the past.
During the NFL Annual League Meetings this week, Wood openly discussed the injury challenges. He even likened the situation to something out of a movie.
“I was talking to Dan Campbell about this recently,” Wood shared. “And I’m not sure if you’ve seen The World According to Garp, but there’s a scene where Robin Williams and Glenn Close are house hunting. They’re done viewing a place, standing outside, when a plane crashes into the house. Robin Williams then says, ‘We’ll take it. That will never happen again.’”
Wood used that story to reflect on the Lions’ disastrous injury year, hoping that it marks the end of their misfortune.
“I hope that’s what our injury season was,” he explained. “We had the plane crash, and we’re not going to face that problem again.”
Looking to the Future
Despite leading the NFL in players placed on injured reserve, the Lions still managed to win the NFC North, make it to the NFC Championship Game, and establish themselves as one of the most well-rounded teams in the league.
But if they can stay healthy in 2025? The competition should be very concerned.
