With NFL rosters shifting due to free agency moves, it’s that time of year when players begin sporting fresh jersey numbers—whether to mark a new chapter or simply get back to a favorite. On Thursday, the Detroit Lions rolled out updated jersey numbers for both returning and incoming players.

Returning Lions getting a number refresh:

Jahmyr Gibbs moves from No. 26 to the recently re-approved No. 0

Jameson Williams trades in No. 9 for No. 1

Tim Patrick, previously No. 17, now wears No. 12

Al-Quadin Muhammad switches from No. 69 to No. 96

Brodric Martin reclaims No. 99 after previously giving it up

Terrion Arnold takes No. 6 after donning 0 last year

Ennis Rakestraw goes from No. 15 to No. 9

Morice Norris switches from No. 40 to Gibbs’ old No. 26

New arrivals and their chosen digits for 2025:

DJ Reed will continue wearing No. 4, just like he did with the Jets

Ronnie Bell will be No. 10

Kenny Yeboah claims No. 88

Roy Lopez and Grant Stuard will both be assigned No. 51

Some of these changes have backstories. For example, Terrion Arnold’s shift to No. 6 came as that number opened up when Ifeatu Melifonwu left during free agency. Morice Norris is taking over Gibbs’ previous number, 26.

Ennis Rakestraw hinted on Instagram Live earlier in the year that he’d be ditching No. 15, and now he’s settled into No. 9—previously worn by Williams.

Tim Patrick’s decision to wear No. 12 ties back to his college days at Utah, while Brodric Martin has reclaimed No. 99 now that Za’Darius Smith—to whom Martin sold the number last season—is no longer on the roster.

Gibbs and Williams’ New Looks Reflect Their Journeys

After Jeff Okudah’s trade in 2023, Jameson Williams made no secret of his desire to wear No. 1, the jersey he rocked at Alabama. A year later, that wish is now reality.

Meanwhile, Jahmyr Gibbs is opting for the eye-catching No. 0—once again allowed in the NFL as of 2023. He follows in the footsteps of Marvin Jones and Terrion Arnold as the third Lion to choose it.

Gibbs didn’t waste time, quickly celebrating the change on Instagram and making it clear he’s glad to leave No. 26 behind.

Though fans who previously bought jerseys for either player may be disappointed—Fanatics’ exchange policy doesn’t apply unless the player is traded—there’s confidence that Gibbs and Williams are sticking with their new numbers long term. Their fresh jerseys are likely to become top sellers for Detroit this season.
