Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has sent a bold message to the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, regarding their season opener. In an April 8 conversation with comedian and Eagles superfan Kevin Hart, St. Brown shared his ambitious goal for the upcoming season. When Hart jokingly stated that the Eagles wouldn’t let the Lions win the Super Bowl, St. Brown responded, “Hopefully we get you guys Week 1,” referring to the Eagles’ home opener on September 4.
While this comment might not be earth-shattering in the world of trash talk, it’s notable that St. Brown has a history of sparking such rivalries. Over his first four seasons, St. Brown has already made a name for himself as one of the NFL’s top wide receivers. He has earned three Pro Bowl selections, two All-Pro honors, and secured a four-year, $120 million contract extension.
St. Brown is also known for his outspoken nature and has previously called out opponents, such as Washington Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown. After a 2022 game, St. Brown remarked on being drafted behind Brown, who had only a modest performance. St. Brown’s comments were a reminder of his competitive drive and desire to prove himself.
When it comes to his performances against the Eagles, St. Brown has faced mixed results. The two teams have met twice since St. Brown entered the league, and in both matchups, the Lions were defeated. In the 2022 season opener, the Eagles won 38-35, with St. Brown contributing 8 receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. In their 2021 encounter, a 41-6 loss, St. Brown had just 3 receptions for 46 yards. With changes to the Eagles’ secondary, including the departure of key players like safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, it will be interesting to see how St. Brown performs when the two teams meet again.
