Lions Could Target 87-Catch WR Jayden Higgins to Support Amon-Ra St. Brown

Detroit Lions star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown has established himself as the centerpiece of the team’s aerial attack. However, the Lions might add another weapon to their offense in the upcoming NFL Draft. One rising wide receiver—Jayden Higgins—is being touted as a strong fit next to St. Brown and a potential target for Detroit on Day 1 of the draft.

According to a report by Pro Football Focus, analyst Mason Cameron believes Higgins would be an ideal addition to the Lions’ receiver corps. Even with two 1,000-yard receivers already on the roster in St. Brown and Jameson Williams, Cameron argues that Higgins fills a void as a true “X” receiver—something Detroit currently lacks.

“Many expect the Lions to go after a pass rusher early, but the depth of this draft class allows them to wait. On the other hand, physical, outside wide receivers are harder to come by later,” said Cameron. “Jayden Higgins, the top-graded wideout on the boundary with a PFF grade of 89.6, brings the size, catch radius, and contested-ball skills to balance out Detroit’s existing pass catchers.”

Higgins had a breakout season in 2024 at Iowa State, posting a career-best 1,183 yards, 87 receptions, and nine touchdowns. Before transferring to Iowa State, Higgins began his collegiate career at Eastern Kentucky, where he hauled in 10 touchdowns in 2022.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 215 pounds, the South Miami native would add a physical presence to the Lions’ receiver room. His combination of size and skill could provide quarterback Jared Goff with another red zone threat while complementing St. Brown’s route-running and Williams’ speed.

Adding Higgins could give Detroit a more dynamic and well-rounded receiving unit heading into 2025.
