Kerby Joseph Shares Contract Extension Update, Reaffirms Passion for Detroit Lions

It’s no surprise that the Detroit Lions are focused on keeping their core players in Detroit — and Kerby Joseph is undoubtedly among the top priorities.

Joseph made an appearance at Comerica Park to toss out the ceremonial first pitch before the Tigers took on the Padres. But beyond his pitch, it was his brief comment about his contract that caught fans’ attention.

Joseph: “We’re working on it”

Speaking with Fox 2’s Jennifer Hammond, the standout safety gave a brief but encouraging update on his contract negotiations.

“We’re working on it, making progress,” Joseph said. “I love Detroit, and Detroit shows me love too.”

Though concise, his comments align with what’s been said by team officials throughout the offseason.

Front Office Focused on Locking in Core Players

Just a day earlier, Lions president Rod Wood highlighted that both Joseph and Aidan Hutchinson are key parts of Detroit’s future.

“Kerby Joseph is due for an extension,” Wood noted during a Detroit Economic Club event. “It’s a challenge — we’ve built a strong foundation of talent, and now we’re at the stage of rewarding them with second contracts.”

GM Brad Holmes has also spoken repeatedly about the importance of retaining homegrown talent. With long-term deals already secured for Penei Sewell, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Alim McNeill, it’s clear that Joseph and Hutchinson are next on the list.

Joseph’s Stellar 2024 Campaign

Joseph emerged as a star in 2024, leading the NFL in interceptions and earning first-team All-Pro recognition. His performance was instrumental in helping Detroit achieve a historic 15-2 season.

Beyond the stats, Joseph brings energy and leadership to the Lions’ secondary — playing with confidence and passion, which has endeared him even more to fans and the city alike.
