As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Detroit Lions fans should keep a close eye on Boston College, especially following Dane Brugler’s final mock draft. Brugler projects that the Lions will select Donovan Ezeiruaku, a pass-rushing standout from Boston College, with the 28th pick. This choice would be a smart move, addressing several needs on the team.

Donovan Ezeiruaku could be the disruptive force Detroit’s defense still seeks, especially opposite Aidan Hutchinson. With Za’Darius Smith still unsigned and other defensive roles uncertain, landing someone like Ezeiruaku late in the first round would be a major win. Brugler notes that Ezeiruaku possesses the ideal combination of “length, rush instincts, and a proven ability to sack quarterbacks”—traits that align perfectly with the Lions’ preference for relentless, technique-driven edge rushers.

What makes Ezeiruaku even more appealing is not just his physical traits but his production. Throughout his college career, he consistently piled up sacks and made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks. In Detroit, he wouldn’t need to be the sole pass-rusher, as his role would be to complement Hutchinson, potentially elevating the Lions’ pass rush from solid to elite.

This addition would also strengthen Detroit’s defensive depth, especially as the season wears on. A fresh, talented pass rusher like Ezeiruaku could provide crucial support in high-pressure situations, addressing weaknesses that were exposed during their playoff loss to the Washington Commanders.
