Lions GM Brad Holmes Dismisses Trade Rumors Involving Jameson Williams

Despite recent speculation, the Detroit Lions have no plans to move on from wide receiver Jameson Williams.

Trade rumors had been swirling in recent weeks, fueled by uncertainty surrounding Williams’ long-term future with the team. However, following the conclusion of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Lions General Manager Brad Holmes made it clear that those rumors have no basis.

“That’s never even been considered,” Holmes said firmly. “I’m not sure where those reports originated, but it’s not something Dan (Campbell) and I have ever discussed.”

The speculation gained traction after comments Holmes made at the NFL owners meeting, where he hesitated to commit to an extension for Williams. Holmes cited the financial challenges of paying top-tier wide receivers.

“When it comes to extensions, there are a lot on the horizon. But wide receiver contracts can be extremely costly. Still, it’s a good problem to have,” Holmes noted.

Despite the financial considerations, Holmes praised Williams’ development and impact.

“He had a great season for us last year. He’s still developing, and I think there’s even more to his game. It just makes sense to try and keep him here,” he added.

NFL insider Albert Breer had mentioned that some within the league speculated Williams could be dealt, especially with the Lions facing a decision on his fifth-year option.

Nonetheless, it seems the team intends to retain him, with reports suggesting they will pick up that fifth-year option—securing Williams through the 2026 season. The receiver is coming off his best year yet, posting 58 catches, 1,001 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns.
