Trade Rumor: Dolphins Could Send All-Pro Cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Lions

With the NFL Draft now wrapped up, the Miami Dolphins made a surprising move by not trading star cornerback Jalen Ramsey—at least not yet. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, both the team and Ramsey have agreed to look into trade opportunities, and Miami is still exploring possible deals.

One trade scenario suggested by Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar involves Ramsey landing with the Detroit Lions. Detroit’s secondary was a major weakness in 2024, especially during their disappointing playoff loss to the Washington Commanders. Despite finishing the regular season with an impressive 15-2 record and securing the NFC’s top seed, the Lions were bounced in the divisional round after surrendering 299 passing yards and two touchdowns to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The Lions’ pass defense ranked third-worst in the league last year, exposing a clear need for secondary help. While Detroit made some defensive additions in the draft, acquiring a proven All-Pro like Ramsey could solidify their back end—especially with Super Bowl aspirations on the line.

Still, one major hurdle remains: Ramsey’s hefty contract. He signed a three-year, $72 million extension with Miami just last offseason. If Detroit is willing to absorb that salary and offer Miami a mid-round pick—possibly a third or fourth-rounder—it could be enough for the Dolphins to move on
