The Detroit Lions have been named a potential landing spot for Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis, whose future in Nashville appears uncertain following the Titans’ decision to draft quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With Ward expected to be the long-term answer at quarterback, Levis, once considered a franchise cornerstone, could soon find himself on the trade block.
Levis, 26, is entering his third NFL season and remains on his rookie contract, which has two years remaining. Despite showing flashes of promise during his tenure with Tennessee, the arrival of Ward signals a shift in the franchise’s direction. The Titans are expected to entertain trade offers for Levis, especially after June 1, when moving him would result in a $1.6 million savings against the salary cap.
The Lions, fresh off a strong 2024 season and hopeful for a deeper playoff push in 2025, could benefit from bolstering their quarterback depth. While Jared Goff is entrenched as the starter and recently signed through 2028, his inconsistent play during the playoffs raised questions about his long-term viability as a top-tier quarterback. Adding a talented backup like Levis would give the Lions added insurance and flexibility.
Currently, the Lions’ quarterback room includes 2023 third-round pick Hendon Hooker, who is still considered a developmental prospect, and veteran Teddy Bridgewater, who briefly unretired to return late in the 2024 season. Neither option provides the same combination of youth, upside, and NFL starting experience that Levis brings to the table.
Levis’ potential arrival in Detroit wouldn’t immediately create a quarterback controversy, but it would give the Lions a strong Plan B. With a deep and talented roster already in place, Detroit’s front office could see this as an opportunity to solidify one of the most important positions in football. If Goff were to struggle or get injured, the team could turn to a quarterback with real starting experience and upside rather than an untested prospect.
As trade rumors continue to swirl, the Lions stand out as a logical fit. With cap flexibility and championship aspirations, Detroit could provide Will Levis with a fresh start—and themselves with valuable depth at the game’s most important position.
