Dan Campbell: Lions Are Right Where They Should Be Entering Year Five
As Dan Campbell prepares for his fifth season leading the Detroit Lions, he remains confident in the direction of the team, despite offseason challenges. Since taking over a struggling franchise, Campbell has helped transform the Lions into contenders. However, this offseason brought hurdles, including the loss of both offensive and defensive coordinators, several injuries on the defensive side, and a demanding schedule that includes an early start with the Hall of Fame Game.
When asked if any of these issues concern him, Campbell was quick to shut down the idea.
“I’m not losing sleep over any of it—whether it’s our pass rush, the changes on our coaching staff, the injury list, or the early schedule,” Campbell said. “Honestly, I see all of it aligning in our favor. Going into my fifth season, the fifth year for the core group of this roster, I think the timing is ideal. It’s setting us up for success.”
The Lions spent much of the previous season looking like one of the NFL’s top teams, but their playoff run was derailed by a wave of injuries on defense. Still, Campbell remains unfazed.
“Injuries happen, and you can’t control them,” he explained. “Sure, if we’re hit with 20 injuries again, that’s a real problem—but it’s not something I can stress over now. Every team deals with it.”
