Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Bro Jared wn Snubbed in Recenter Ranking Despite Elite Performance

The Detroit Lions boast one of the NFL’s most dangerous quarterback-receiver tandems, even if a new ranking doesn’t fully reflect it. Since 2022, Detroit’s offensive success has largely been fueled by the impressive connection between Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Despite this, their standing among the league’s top duos has been underrated.

Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema recently released his list of the top quarterback-pass catcher duos heading into the 2025 season. Surprisingly, Goff and St. Brown landed at just No. 6. That’s despite the fact that, over the past two years, no other pair has combined for more yards—3,260, to be exact. Sikkema noted that Goff’s passer rating when targeting St. Brown (126.8) trails only Jayden Daniels’ 131.5 when throwing to Terry McLaurin.

Even more puzzling is that the relatively untested duo of C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins was ranked third, while Daniels and McLaurin, along with Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans, also came in ahead of the Detroit pair. Based on consistency and production alone, Goff and St. Brown deserved a top-five—if not top-three—placement.

What sets this Lions duo apart is how essential they are to each other’s success. Without St. Brown, Goff’s production would likely dip significantly. Unlike many of the quarterbacks ranked ahead of him, Goff doesn’t offer the same mobility or off-script playmaking. That makes his efficiency with St. Brown all the more impressive.

Regardless of outside opinions, the Goff-St. Brown connection remains vital to Detroit’s offensive identity. It will also play a critical role in the transition to new offensive coordinator John Morton’s system in 2025.

Goff Confident in Offensive Direction Under Morton

Jared Goff has already shared optimism about Morton’s approach, suggesting that while some aspects of the offense will evolve, the core foundation remains unchanged.

“There will be a few things that look different, but also plenty that stays the same,” Goff said. “He’s bringing ideas from his own background, but he was also with us last season and understands what worked. So there’s a blend of continuity and innovation.”

Goff believes that even if last year’s coordinator had returned, there would still be tweaks to the playbook. Morton, now in charge, is expected to maintain key elements of what made the offense successful while adding his own strategic touches.

Given Morton’s familiarity with the team, it’s a safe bet that the Goff-St. Brown duo will remain central to the Lions’ game plan. If their track record is any indication, they’ll continue to prove why they deserve to be recognized among the NFL’s elite pairings.
